WORKING TOGETHER

Window cleaning is typically done using the following 7 steps:

01

First, the windows are examined for any damage or cracks in the glass or frames.

This is normally done during the estimate and brought to your attention before the work begins.

02

If there is any loose dirt or debris, it is removed using a dry brush or cloth.

Depending on the height of the window itself, this process may be done with a brush and hose system for safety.

03

A cleaning solution is then applied to the window. This can be a store-bought window cleaner or a homemade solution made from water and vinegar or dish soap.

If your home or place of business was recently painted, or pressure washed, we may use pure water to avoid any discolorations or damage from harsh chemicals on the windows.

04

The cleaner is spread evenly over the window using a squeegee, starting at the top of the window and working down.

Inside some properties, we may use a drop cloth to ensure carpets and hardwood interior stays dry

05

The squeegee is then used to remove the cleaner and any dirt or grime from the window, wiping the blade after each pass to prevent streaking.

06

Any remaining water or cleaner is wiped away using a clean, dry cloth or towel.

07

The process is repeated on the other side of the window if needed.

Clean your own windows in 5 steps?

Here's what you will need

A strip washer (a.k.a window mop)
Two towels ( One for drying wet areas and one for spot-treating dry areas)
High-quality squeegee
Putty knife
Paint scraper
water, Soap mixture
#0000 Steel Wool (Ultra Fine)

To start, prepare two towels - one wet and one dry. The latter is crucial for touching up the windows during cleaning. Keeping the dry towel moisture-free is essential, as using a damp towel may leave marks and require additional cleaning.

Whisk the window

Take your wet towel and do what we call “Whisking the window” i.e getting rid of any of the cobwebs and dirt to get the frame as clean as possible. Wipe off all the cobwebs making sure that the window is nice and clean.

Wash the Window

The next thing you're going to do is to wash the window.
Take your strip wash and look at the window to see if there's anything on it that might need some extra soap and scrubbing.
Rub the strip wash onto the glass and coat the entire window with soapy water to really scrub and clean the sides.
Use the edges of your strip wash and target anything that needs extra cleaning. You want to scrape everything, not coming off with your strip wash. If you're ever scraping a window, make sure the window is wet. Never scrape a dry window.
One word of caution with using a blade during Window Cleaning, Tinted windows can be damaged with a blade, so use #0000 Steel Wool instead. Make sure you deliberately put your razor away carefully, as having an open blade can be a very dangerous thing. Due to the cost of certain materials, it's often more cost-effective to hire Lawrenceville window cleaning services to handle your external window cleaning.

Squeegee The Window

We've whisked it, washed it, and now we will wipe it off! Take your damp or wet towel and wrap it around your finger so you get a little bit of the towel to wipe the corners of the glass with.

The objective here is to make sure that the squeegee has got somewhere to grab a dry spot. Trace around the borders of the glass to provide that dry spot. Take the squeegee, place it at the top of the window, and pull it down, cleaning and dragging the soap and water from the glass.

Try to do this with the least strokes possible because you want to be efficient. After each “Pull Down,” Wipe the squeegee.

Detail the window

So, now we've whisked, washed, wiped, squeegeed, and now we will use our dry towel to detail the edges. Again, put the dry towel just around your finger so you can get an edge to trace the wet spots on the borders of the glass.

Take your wet towel again and notice that all the water taken from the window now sits on the window sill. All the water accumulating down there will damage the sill if left to dry on it. So, wipe it up to protect the sill, and ensure that it's the whole window not that has been cleaned and not just the glass.

Inspect the window

The final step is to inspect the glass and ensure no streaks and drips will dry and leave stains. Again, it's about providing the best quality during this window cleaning.
